Mahler Symphony No. 8
"Remember that the universe begins to ring and ring. It is no longer human voices, but planets and suns that revolve."
This is how Gustav Mahler described his eighth symphony, which he considered his greatest, most important work - not only because of the unprecedented effort with eight vocal soloists, two mixed choirs, children's choir, large orchestra and organ, but because of their reaching for the stars' content. The medieval Pentecostal hymn "Veni, creator spiritus" and the conclusion of Goethe's "Faust II" unite to an overwhelming jubilee celebration of the creative par excellence.
